Dr. Ed Walsh, Prof Ecomonics, University of Limerick while speaking on the Damien Kibred show, 22/08/11, Newstalk 106 -108fm stated “ the economic situation in this country is unlikely to improve because this country pays ambulance drivers more than junior consultants in Finland”
The Professionals Dr. Walsh is referring to are not drivers but paramedics and advanced paramedics, highly trained in the management and care of critically ill and injured members of our community.
“There are no such things as ambulance drivers in our frontline service, we are paramedics and we have the responsibility of the stablilitation of, at times critically ill patients untill they reach the A&E Dept” says Sean O Donnell, NASRA Spokesperson.
‘We as paramedics are amongst the lowest paid workers within the health service and we are the only emergency service personnel that don't have officer grade
