Appropriate Hospital Access

TO: Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Advanced Paramedics North Leinster Area

SUBJECT: Gastrointestinal Bleeding (Haematemisis) Protocol

Any patient suffering with a suspected Upper Gastrointestinal (G.I) Bleed in St Columcille's Hospital or St. Michael's catchment area, should be taken directly to the Emergency Department at St Vincent's University Hospital

RATIONALE: This protocol is driven by the increased access to surgical expertise in dealing with Upper GI bleeding at St Vincent's University Hospital on a 24 hour basis

EFFECTIVE FROM: September 1 st 2011

EFFECTIVE TO: Indefinite
